Micro-Loan Ministry

Lowell Troyer, the Students International director in the Dominican Republic, has had a dream of adding a micro-loan ministry to the group of ministries that we have here in Jarabacoa. He envisioned a ministry that would give small loans ($200.00 - $300.00) to help those with limited resources start small businesses. Not only would loans be given, but we would provide business coaching, and engage in relational evangelism and discipleship. This dream is now becoming a reality. Last fall a company in the States donated $5000.00 to get the project started.
In September Ryan Holloway came on staff with us to lead the micro-loan ministry.
(Nate and Ryan interiew a community leader in the squatter community of El Callejon as we lay the ground work for the micro-loan ministry.)
We were also able to connect with Hope International, another evangelical organization in the Dominican Republic who is doing micro-loaning. Ryan is working with them three days per week and learning from their experience. Ryan with a new group of Hope International loan recipients. Ladies who recieved funding from Hope International to start a micro-business.
We know that if we can learn from them, we will avoid making unnecessary mistakes when we begin our own ministry. We hope to be able to begin giving our first set of loans in May. Pray for us as we begin this new work. We'll keep you updated.
