Motorcycles

The Dominican Republic is a land of thousands upon thousands of motorcyles. They are so much more economical than a car - cost less to purchase, cost less to maintain, and sip rather than guzzle gasoline. We have a 90cc Honda. Nate uses it to visit the different Students International ministry sites that he supervises. He also uses it to transport groceries, to transport passengers, and to run errands.

One evening, Nate decided to treat the family to Dominican pizza. On the way back from the pizza shop, he was holding the pizza box with one hand and driving the cycle with the other. As he motored along, the wind caught the lid of the box and flipped it up in front of his face. Suddenly, he was unable to see where he was going. He created quite a scene as he frantically tried to get the cycle stopped without running into someone or something. Thankfully all ended well - the pizza didn't spill, and he avoided a wreck.

Speaking about transportation, we found out this week that we will need to replace our 1991 Toyota van. It has faithfully served us since we came to the D.R. nearly five years ago. However, this year we have had a couple of costly repairs. Now we discovered that the engine needs to be overhauled or replaced. We feel that to continue pouring funds into an old vehicle would be unwise and that it is time for an upgrade. We're thinking that a twelve passenger van like they use here for taxis would serve us well in ministry. We should be able to find a good used one for about $12,000. Please pray with us as we trust God to supply for this need.

Are those Maria's children on the moto?!
I have enjoyed many rides on the moto with Nate and the girls. The most spectacular sight was seeing a washing machine on the back of a moto, now that takes mad skill!

I miss you all!

Nate - How can I send you money for your "van fund"?
