Costa Rica

Last December, our son, Ryan, moved from California to San Isidro, Costa Rica to help Calvary Chapel Bible College open an extension campus.  So when Maggie and I were asked to come to Students International Costa Rica to speak at their annual staff retreat, we immediately decided to extend our trip several days and check in with Ryan. 
On Tuesday, May 3, we arrived at the airport in the capital, San Jose, ate lunch with the S.I. Costa Rica director, Jeff Dixon, and boarded the afternoon bus to San Isidro.  Three hours and what seemed like hundreds of mountain curves later, Ryan and three of his friends, met us at the bus stop.

We were able to spend two days there experiencing Ryan's world.  Here are a few photos and  highlights of our visit.  

The Calvary Chapel Bible College extension campus in Costa Rica is in it's first semester of existence.  We loved joining in on morning devotions and being able to get to know the students and staff. 



Maggie asked Ryan if there was anything he was particularly hungry for.  "Strawberry short cake," he said.  So we bought strawberries at the farmers market and Maggie whipped up a wonderful short cake.  That was dinner - a huge bowl of short cake topped with strawberries and milk.  It was the best!

Every morning, Ryan gets up and is at a local coffee shop when they open at 5:00 am.  He spends the next hour reading his Bible and preparing for the day.  We were able to join him for this time of spiritual nourishment and also enjoyed a guyaba pastry and Costa Rican coffee.

There is also a Calvary Chapel church being planted in San Isidro.  Even though we weren't able to be part of a Sunday service, we were able to participate in a mid-week Bible study.
