For eight years, Students International has had a Sports Ministry here in the D.R. This ministry focused on discipling adolescent and teenage guys through sports. However we've also dreamed about opening a sports ministry that would focus on connecting with girls.
(Jessica with a group of girls from Barrio Baleguer.)
In May, God opened the doors for us to do just that. Jessica Gates, former volleyball player and assistant coach at Bethel College in Indiana, came on staff with us with the giftings and training needed to launch this new ministry. Within weeks, God gave us favor with key people in two communities allowing us the use of a public gym and an outside court at a public school.
(Short term outreach participants from the States help with volleyball drills.)
We've been amazed at how God has graced Jessica for this new work. She is enthusiastic and friendly, but is also able to maintain order and respect as she coaches and disciples the girls who are part of the new women's sports program.
Join us in thanking God for the new doors of ministry that he has opened. Pray for Jessica as she disciples adolescent and teenage girls. Pray that many of these girls would come to know Jesus as their Saviour.
