Turn the Hearts of the Fathers to Their Children

For the past two weeks Nate has been working at the Students International art ministry. He has been filling in for a staff member who is recuperating from foot surgery. This summer we are continuing a mural project on an seven hundred foot wall bordering an impoverished community. The goal is to bring light and hope into the community through murals that communicate biblical truth using non-traditional symbols.

During these two weeks, three college students from Boston University, Messiah College, and Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences joined us at the art ministry. Each of the three college students were assigned a ten foot section of wall to paint. They were encouraged to pray and seek God about the message and design he would have them create on their section.

When Benjamin learned about the absence of fathers in many of the homes in the community, he felt moved to design his mural with a message challenging men to take their place of responsibility in the family. As Benjamin worked on his mural, passerbys asked about its meaning. One of them was a nine-year-old boy called Mikael. Mikeal's father abandoned his family several years ago. As Nate explained what the mural meant, Mikael became silent and watched. Several times throughout the morning, Mikael returned to once again see the mural. Pray for the families in the Dominican Republic who have absent fathers. Pray for the children. Pray that God would turn the hearts of the fathers to their children.
