Playground for Genesis
Two years ago, we moved Genesis, our school for handicapped children, to a new location. The new property had many positive qualities: a kitchen, larger classrooms, an area for physical therapy, and a spacious lawn. What it didn't have was a playground. Our teachers asked, "Nate, when are we going to build a playground for the children?" My answer, "I'm sorry, but we just don't have funds for a playground. Teacher salaries, educational materials, rent, and utilities have to be the priority." However, I encouraged them to pray.
This month, a group of sixteen men from California, joined us in the D.R. for a one-week outreach. And guess what they brought with them - funds to build a playground! Five of the men spent the week working on the playground with our construction ministry while the rest worked with other S.I. ministries. By Thursday evening, the final details of the project were being finished up.
On Friday morning, the entire group joined the staff and children at the school for a playground dedication. After the dedication, the children were allowed to play on the playground for the first time. What excitement! The ran, climbed, swang on the swings, and slid down the slide - up and down, back and forth.
Craig, Dave, and the California men's group, thank you for your generosity and work of love. Thank you for helping God answer the prayers of the teachers and the children.
